Minzed Not Recognized on Some PCs

trubino

Hi.

The company that I work for is using the Minized for its next generation hardware debugger.  We are having a problem where the board is not recognized in device manager on some PCs.  Manually loading the device driver, as suggested in the manual, does not resolve the issue.  As an example, I have a board that is recognized and works fine on a Windows 7 PC.  But, it does not get recognized on a new Windows 10 laptop.  We see this same behavior on different PCs at our location.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi,

is it random or is there some pattern in regards to what PCs can see the MiniZed? Are you installing the driver from https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Are you power cycling the PCs after installing the driver?

    Hi Josh,

Thanks for your quick reply.  Originally I used the driver from the link in the manual.  I rebooted, but I don't recall if I powered down.  I downloaded the driver from the link you provided, installed and powered off and the board still does not show up in device manager.

The problem seems to be random.  There are some of my colleagues who get their boards recognized and some who do not.

    Thanks again,

    Tom

    Hey Tom,

Is the issue board specific or computer specific? By this I am asking, if i computer doesn't recognize one MiniZed, does it recognize another?

    Hi Josh,

It's computer specific.  One of the first things we try is swapping out the board.  We're not sure of a common thread with the failing PCs.  It has happened on Windows 7 and 10 on various hardware platforms.  Maybe it's the BIOS?

    Thanks and regards,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Have you tried powering the AUX power port (J6) in conjunction with the USBJTAG UART microUSB connection (J2)? Ideally you would connect the AUX PWR input to a 2A USB supply. There may be a current consumption issue going on. Also are you using USB 3.0 or 2.0 ports on your PC?

    Hi Josh,

The laptop has USB 3.0.  I tried powering with J6, we use J1, not J2, but that did not work.

One strange thing that happened was that it did detect it one time out of the many times I was plugging and unplugging the cable.  I could never get it to happen again though.

    Thanks and regards,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Would your company firewall by chance be preventing the board from being recognized? I'm out of ideas at this point, typically just installing the FTDI drivers solves the problem.

    Hi Josh,

I'll look into that.  Thanks again for all of your help!

    Best regards,

    Tom
