PIO Demo in Vivado v15-4

Former Member

Hi,

the PIO Demo design that you can download was created in Vivado 14-4.

We have built this design and it works on the PicoZed FMC v1 board using the demo GUI and windows driver provided.

We then upgraded the tools version to 15.4 and followed the same build procedure. The design builds but we see no signs of life when plugged into our test PC.

The GUI does not recognize that there is a PCIe EP on the bus.

Has anyone come across this issue?

Is there a known issue/fix?

Regards,

   Elwyn

    Hello Elwyn,

This is a known issue. Typically when Vivado is updated there are changes to the tool that in turn make it function differently then it has previously. This in turn can bring about some issue when you go to update an old design to a newer Vivado version.

What you need to do, is determine what changes they made from Vivado 2014.4 to Vivado 2015.4. If it is a common issue you are facing with updating the design to your newer Vivado version, you can typically find a few forum posts on either this forum or the xilinx forum https://forums.xilinx.com/ . Other then that, i'd suggest staying with Vivado 2014.4 if you can.

    Elwyn,

I want to let you know that the PIO design is on a roadmap to be updated to newer tools, however it is going to be targeting the PicoZed FMC v2.  If possible, I would recommend updating to a V2 board due to the improvments to the transceiver paths.

Once the design is posted, you should be able to target the FMC v1 board by only changing the constraints.  I have already done this myself in 2014.4 moving the design to v2 from the v1 files you have.
