Picozed UARTS

Hello,

About 3 months ago I got started desigining a carrier board for a Picozed card to be used in a project. I got pretty far on the design and got called off it for sometime and I am just returning to it. Anyway as I am picking up the design again I didn't make very good notes and was wondering if someone could answer a few quick questions for me to save me the time of going back to reaserach them.

The design needs 4 UARTS. I was planning on using the two available UARTS from the PS and then implementing the other two in PL. I can swear I remeberlooking at the design tools to see if cores existed to implement the UARTS in PL and beleive that they did. So that is my first question. Is there existing IP within the design tools to implement the addtional UARTS in PL? The other question is what are the limitations on the baud rates for the devices? I believe I remembered that there were limits and that they were suficient for my use but again I didn't make any specific notes about it.

There is an axi_uart16550 IP core available in Vivado that should do what you want. In Vivado, with your Block Diagram open, add the axi_uart16550 UART to your design. Double click on the UART IP and configure as needed. The maximum baud rate will depend on the source you provide for the x16 baud rate clock but there should not be any serious limitations. Otherwise it should operate as any 16550 UART would.

If you started with your carrier design 3 months ago you might want to refresh your design documents from PicoZed documents page as there have been some updates.

    -Gary

Thanks, I did come to the conclusion that as distasteful as it might be that I need to go back through all of the documents again.
