Picozed PS PMOD

I am using the Zynq 7030 SOM with the Picozed FMC carrier card.  When I create a project in Vivado 2014.3.1 using the board definition files for the carrier card and Z7030, the ARM cores only run correctly when I use the "Run Block Automation" option which creates a ground to the Card Detect pin of SD1.  But, I need to use the MIO pins used for SD1 for signals on the PS PMOD.  What is happening behind the scenes in the "Run Block Automation" that needs to happen for the ARM cores to run correctly?  Is there a way to do this while leaving the PS PMOD MIO pins available?

    Hello Aaron,

There are a limited number of PS MIO pins available. On the PicoZed 7030 the PS MIO pins that are connected to the PicoZed FMC Carrier Card PS PMOD are multiplexed with the eMMC memory interface on the PicoZed 7030 Card. You can use either the eMMC memory or the PS PMOD I/O, but not both. There is a multiplexer that allows you to select the usage either by software or hardware (jumpers). Take a look at section 2.2.3 of the PicoZed 7015/7030 HW Users Guide for details:

    http://zedboard.org/support/documentation/4736

The PicoZed 7015 + PicoZed FMC Carrier board preset assumes that you are going to use the eMMC memory. If you do decide to select the PS MIO instead of the eMMC interface, you can open up the Zynq processing system IP in the Vivado Block Design after you have 'Run Block Automation', select 'MIO Configuration', and under 'I/O Peripherals' just de-select the SD 1 interface that had been enabled to connect to the eMMC memory. Then the PS MIO signals will be available for the PS PMOD interface.
