Vivado 2018.3 can't parse PicoZed 7030 SOM files

Vivado 2018.3 (as installed on my computer) can't parse the PicoZed SOM bdf files (xml) that I downloaded from github/Avnet/bdf. All the bdf files for FMC carrier cards, eval kits, etc; seem to be parsed correctly, and appear in the project device list. But not the SOM files. The error message I'm getting is: "[Board 49-4] Problem parsing board_part file - C:/Xilinx/Vivado/2018.3/data/boards/board_files/picozed_7030_som/1.2/board.xml, Invalid xml file C:/Xilinx/Vivado/2018.3/data/boards/board_files/picozed_7030_som/1.2/board.xml: equal sign expected". Is there a known workaround or correction for this?

    Hi hamess,

Would you please post a screenshot of the error that you are seeing?

Also, what is your PC configuration?

I have 2018.3 running on my Windows 10 PC.  I just created a new Vivado block design based on picozed_7030_som BDF file from the Avnet BDF repo, but I did not see this error pop up.

    Best Regards,

    -Kevin

    Hi Kevin;

I'm running Vivado 2018.3 on a generic Core i5 PC (i5-6600K w/16G). The OS is Win7 Pro 64 bit. Here's a partial screenshot of the error:

    image

The actual message is: " [Board 49-4] Problem parsing board_part file - C:/Xilinx/Vivado/2018.3/data/boards/board_files/picozed_7030_som/1.2/board.xml, Invalid xml file C:/Xilinx/Vivado/2018.3/data/boards/board_files/picozed_7030_som/1.2/board.xml: equal sign expected"

As I mentioned, I inspected the board.xml file and the source looks like HTML to me, even though the extension is .xml. (I'm not an expert - I could be wrong) Xilinx UG895 clearly states that the board files must be XML.

    Hi Scott,

I'd suggest you re-download the XML file from the GITHUB.

Like Kevin above, I tested that file in my tools and do not see any issues.

I know that I've seen GITHUB present the wrong file to people in the past - meaning an HTML instead of the XML and if you are not familiar with GITHUB's web interface, you can accidentally get the wrong file (I've done it!).

    Head here:

    https://github.com/Avnet/bdf

Then click on the GREEN "Clone or Download" button.

In the menu that pops up, choose download zip.  That will ensure you have the correct files.

From there, extract those to the boards folder, where you placed files prior.

Thanks for the suggestion Dan, using the "Download" option got me the files correctly. On my previous attempt I clicked through to the 7030 SOM files I was looking for, and used the "right click - save as" technique. This got me a set of files with the expected names and extensions, but packed with HTML rather than the correct content. The new files have definitely fixed the problem.
