Baseboard SD Card Support

Former Member

Hello

Since the PicoZed-SDR Development Kit (2x2) only ships with 1 micro SD card (with adapter)  I have bought another plain SD card to use in parallel on the baseboard.

I bought a SanDisk SDHC-I 8Gb (Class 10) card but it does not want to boot. I compared it to the one shipped with the kit (Delkin Devices SDHC-I Class 1) and wondering if the speed marking is the issue...

That said, according to https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/ it seems like the serial data rate is the same for those two.

Any suggestions would be appreciated on which cards are recommended for the kit's baseboard.

Thanks,
Jaco

    Hi Jaco,

    From the User Guide:

"If you are using the SD Card for a file system a Class 10 card or better is recommended. We use SanDisk and Delkin. Other vendor cards may work as well, however we’ve experience issues with a few brands."

I'm surprised that your SanDisk Class 10 isn't working. I've been using the same for over 18 months with no failures. It get's a lot of re-imaging wear and tear, but still no issues. Did you follow the instructions in section 7.5 - Restoring the Analog Devices SD Card Image ?

Did you verify that the checksum matched?

    /Matt

    Hi Jaco,

Unfortunately, not all SD cards are created equally.  This document we created may be a help:

Interesting that you are having a problem with a SanDisk card.  Like Matt has said, that brand is normally very good and reliable.

    Hi Guys

Thank you for the pointers and info. I had a bit of time to debug this and instead of my initial assumption that the card did not work I looked at the UART output  and could see that it does actually detect the card. It falls over where it attempts to mount the second partition which I forgot to create.

After following the exact steps on the ADI wiki everything is working now.

    Thanks again for the help.
    Regards,
    Jaco

    Hi Jaco,

Yes, that makes sense. The EXT4 partition contains the Linux persistent filesystem, while the FAT32 only contains BOOT.BIN and the kernel. Glad you got it sorted out.

    /Matt
