PicoZed SDR STEP file units wrong?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

I'm designing a carrier board for the PicoZed SDR, and tried importing the latest STEP file (08_038702d_2.STEP from 4/27/16) into Altium.  It imports, but it looks like the file shows the units as meters, but should be inches (it's ~39x too big).

The old STEP file (08_038702d_RFSOM.stp from 2/19/16) imports correctly, though it's much less detailed than the new one, so I'd like to use the new one if possible.

Can anyone confirm this is a problem with the file, and not a bug in Altium?  Unfortunately, I don't see a way to scale the model in Altium, or I'd just do that.

Thanks,
Pat

Let me check and get back to you.

    I just tried it in:
    - https://a360.autodesk.com/viewer (which loaded OK) and
    - http://beta.sharecad.org/en/ (which didn't work, failed with an error).

Other than taking a long time to load the file, (I guess I shouldn't complain - it is free),

its definitely in the wrong units. The board (which is actually 100mm x 62mm) measured 3.9m x 2.4m

Also note - that the package dimensions look like they are based on the keep out areas, not the actual packages. (i.e. if you look at the DDR3L parts on the bottom, there are actually two parts, with space between them, not one part).

We will try to fix it as soon as we can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the confirmation.  I'll keep using the old one for now (the most important part is making sure the connectors are aligned and that my connectors don't hit the module)... the fully detailed models are nice for the good looking 3D view when someone drops by to see what I'm working on though. ;)

    Thanks,
    Pat

    Pat:

I was told that the person getting the files should have it fixed early next week. As soon as we get anything - we will post it.

Thanks, that seems to have worked!

One nitpick is that it seems all color information is gone in the new one... the STEP file with the wrong scale had a nice green color for the PCB and gold color for the components.  I was able to open the new STEP file in FreeCAD and set the PCB color to green though, so the 3D renderings look nice, and appear to be scaled correctly. :-)

Okay, glad to hear you have what you need.

The component models appear to be using either the keepout or outline, not the actual mechanical package size.
