picozed SDR development kit startup problem

I am trying to bring up a picozed SDR development kit for the first time. I believe that I've follow the instructions well. When powering up, my HDMI display shows signs of life and it sometimes displays a few windows for about 5 seconds but then goes blank and remains in that state. When trying to bring it up, the HDMI display often just stays blank. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have a KB/Mouse hooked up?  I've noticed that mine does the blank screen as well, but moving the mouse makes it wake back up.  Just a guess, but I think it happens because there's no RTC, so if you're plugged into the network, when it connects to the internet and sets the clock to the current time, the screen saver thinks it's been idle for a REALLY long time.

If that doesn't work, are you able to get to a shell login by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1?

    Problem solved

The problem is that the PicoZed SDR Development Kit  comes with the wrong cable for the USB hub and the documentation (PicoZed SDR Development Kit Getting Started Guide v1.4_0.pdf) likewise guides the user to do something that cannot work. The kit comes with a micro-USB to USB type A, MALE connector (this does not work since it ostensibly treats the development kit as another peripheral bit it is actually a host).

The solution is to treat the development kit as a host, using a cable with micro-USB to USB type A, FEMALE. This female connector attaches to the USB’s singular host connector and all will work fine.

Here is an example of such a cable for $4.99.

    https://www.amazon.com/OKRAY-Braided-Adapter-Samsung-Function/dp/B01G81GY7M/ref=pd_sim_421_11?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2N0SJJ7QC3TZ59RQ6KTN

Avnet should correct all of their PicoZed SDR Development Kits and the associated documentation.

    Hi Jim,

Sorry your kit arrived with the wrong USB adapter. I'm looking into this with our team who assembles the kits.

The kit should include a micro-USB to USB type A, FEMALE.

Regarding the instructions -- I have the kit working on my bench right now, following the instructions in the Getting Started Guide v1.4. Can you point me to the section that seems incorrect to you?

    Thanks,

    /Matt
