Rev B vs Rev C

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi,

Two questions:

1. How do I know if I have a Rev C board? I received a board recently that has a sticker with the following: S15-1899, SN:00014. It does not indicate Rev B or C, is this a Rev C board?

2. Is there a document that shows the changes from Rev B to Rev C?

Thanks

    Hello Darryn,

You don't indicate which type of PicoZed you have: 7010, 7015, 7020, or 7030.

On my boards there is a sticker on the bottom of the board that indicates "BD-Z7PZP-7Z015-G REVC" (or 7Z020, etc.). At the edge of the PCB, on the connector or 'solder' side, opposite the third connector, there should also be a PCB type/rev etched in the copper. Something like "Z7PZ-Z70x0-PCB-C" or "Z7PZ-Z70xX-PCB-C". Either of these should indicate your Rev.

There is a document on the PicoZed Documentation page that lists the changes from Rev B to Rev C of the PicoZed 7015/30:

    http://zedboard.org/sites/default/files/documentations/PicoZed%207015_7030%20RevBtoRevC%20pin%20changes%20150331.pdf

    Gary,

I am asking about the PicoZed SDR board.

The board that has the Rev B sticker and the board that has the sticker I described above both have the same etch just below the sticker: AES-PZSDR-Z7035-AD9361-G.

I saw the information for the PicoZed, but can't find similar information for the PicoZed SDR.

    Darryn

    Hi Darryn,

Rev B SOMs have a sticker that says RFSOM REV B located on the bottom side, as you noticed, just above the etch AES-PZSDR-Z7035-AD9361-G.  Rev C SOMs have a sticker with an S15- designator and an enumerated SN, but not revision printed.  No other versions have been shipped.

It sounds as though you may have both vintages.   The difference between B and C are very small and result in no functional changes; mostly making the schematics match what is in the BOM and choosing a few parts that were easier to place.

    Summary:

    •   Added a pull up and pull down to the (Y1) crystal
    •   Replaced the 2 pin Ethernet Phy crystal (Y2) with a 4 pin
    •   Replaced the six pin BGA (U23) ADP7112-3.3 with ADP7118 sot-23
    •   Pull up/down resistors (R26, R37) are now DNP
    •   50 ohm series (R60) is now  0ohm

    Matt,

We designed a custom carrier card for the PicoZed Rev B and we just received 2 of the PicoZed Rev C boards.  Our Rev B boards boot just fine on our custom carrier cards but the Rev C boards will not boot.  What changes from Rev B to Rev C would effect booting?

    Thanks,
    Kiel

    Hi Kiel,

Your Rev C boards power up, but will not boot?

Do you have the boot switches set correctly on the SOM (S1,S3,S4) per the User Guide?  That's the first thing I would check.  Let me know.

You'll also find Rev summaries in that doc.

    /Matt
