sshfs error fuse:device not found

Former Member over 13 years ago

Hi,

I'm trying to get sshfs running but I can't get it working. I can mount the zedboard form my pc (both ubuntu 12.04) but not the other way around.
The zedboard kernel is 3.3.0-xillinux-1.0+ #1

Every time I try to connect to my pc via sshfs i get the error message:
fuse: device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first.

And if I run modprobe fuse I get:
FATAL: Module fuse not found

As far as I know fuse should be included in the kernel, but because of the error message I installed it anyway. The error message remained though.

Unfortunately, FUSE isn't supported at all, not even as a kernel module.

The way around this is to download the kernel tree, and recompile it with FUSE enabled as a module. To make things easier, copy only the module file to where it belongs in /lib/modules/ and run depmod -a (on the platform itself).

    Thanks for your help.
As I am new to this let me make sure I understood this correctly.
    1) Get the kernel source via git.
    2) Copy the files from <Path to Fuse>/lib/modules to <Path to linux-xlnx>/lib/modules (creat that folder first).
3)When kernel is compiled and running on the board, I type depmod -a on the board command line?

What I suggested was to rebuild the kernel with the modules needed to support FUSE and then copy those to /lib/modules/xillinux-1.0+/<path> and run depmod -a on the Zedboard.

But a "rich kernel" is about to be released within a few days, which I believe will have the modules in place, so I guess adopting that kernel and possibly a few apt-get's will get you on the road. It will be pretty easy.

As promised, a rich kernel is now available at

    Thanks again.
    I'll go and try that.
