Power Cycle Problems

Every time I shut down the Zedboard while it's running Xillinux, no matter how I shut it down (turn off system, restart system, flip the switch), it fails to reload properly.  It gives the following message repeatedly upon startup:

init: Failed to create pty - disabling logging for job

and then does nothing.  I believe this is an issue because of the non-standard /dev setup, however I haven't seen anyone else post this problem.  There is no command line so I cannot try terminal commands.  ctrl+alt+delete resulted in it telling me it cannot find the device-mapper in /proc/misc, then says it will restart and does nothing.

Apparently I'm only having this issue after installing OpenCV.  OpenCV just doesn't want to cooperate with the ZedBoard, it seems.

Okay, I think I figured out *what* the problem is, although I'm unsure how to rectify it.  When I do apt-get upgrade, it changes the initramfs to look for modules in the 3.2.0-omap4 directory instead of the 3.3.0-xillinux-1.0 directory (or maybe it was like this before, but there seems to be some confusion as to which kernel to use sometimes).  I'm fairly certain it has something to do with initramfs, and I'm curious how I can modify this appropriately.  If I force it to update itself, it links itself to the omap4 kernel instead of the xillinux kernel, which is why I believe I'm having so many issues.  Does this make sense to anybody and does anybody know what to do about this?

Yeah, so apt-get upgrade links to the old omap4 kernel which is bad.  You can fix this by going to /boot and

    $rm vmlinuz

which will delete the link to the old kernel.  To make a link to the new one, use

    $ln -s vmlinuz-3.3.0-xillinux-1.0 vmlinuz

Apparently I'm the only person having this problem, but if that's not true (and I don't see how it could be since it's a brand new board and we should all be starting with the same image) it's pretty annoying that you can't use standard terminal commands with something that's supposed to be a full linux distro without causing boot problems.

As I've said in another post, Xillinux wasn't intended to be apt-upgraded. It seems like the attempt to upgrade altered the boot chain, which diverts from Ubuntu's. Or messed something else up.
