Creating linux boot for zedboard on new sd card

Hi,

I am working on the ZedBoard with the AD-FMCOMMS1-EBZ extension board. I have been given the board as a project but with no sd card. I have consequently bought a new one (8gb class 10) and followed this tutorial :
http://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/linux-software/zynq_images
I downloaded the zynq.image and tested it with MD5 (under windows). I then used DISKPART to "clean" the device and tried to write the image to the sd card with physdiskwrite.
The problem is i think this tutorial was written for the sd card that came with the box (which i do not have). In following this tutorial i have not made a BOOT partition for when i plug it in to the ZedBoard. I would like to know if there are any tutorials out there for loading a linux distribution (the one found at the bottom of this page : http://wiki.analog.com/resources/tools-software/linux-software/zynq_images).

Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Kronos,

I am not sure if there is an easy way to load all the appropriate pieces that are required for the XCOMMS SD card image.

Some of this is documented here for the ADV7511, but even going down this route you would be missing some of the applications such as the ADI IIO Scope tool so that would need to be loaded also.

It sounds like you may be running into a problem where the image provided slightly exceeds the capacity of the SD card.  We have found that all 8GB SD cards are not made the same with slight variations in the number of available blocks available.

One shortcut you might consider is to use a larger capacity SD card.  If you went down this path, maybe a 16GB card would make sense.  Initially, you will lose access to the second 8GB until you add another partition, but at least it would get you to the point where you can copy contents off the 16GB card back to the 8GB card.

    Regards,

    -Kevin
