Uart connection simulink

Hi,

i'm trying to program an uart to usb connection from my zedboard to my pc with simulink so i can read out/display and log data (8bit ufix) in tera term. I'm using matlab version 2013a on windows 8.1 with system generator. how do i constrain a serial output? I presume it's by using a "gateway out"-block but in the hardware guide it's not very well documented what i should write in it nor how the timing has to be constraint... Any help? thanks in advance!

Hello,

One way to accomplish what you've described is by using a feature of Xilinx System Generator for DSP called HW Co-simulation which allows the FPGA design to be "in-the-loop" during Simulink simulation via JTAG (or sometimes Ethernet). This would allow you to log data from your System Generator design in Simulink. Look through the Xilinx System Generator User's Guide for more info.

Another option you have is the use of Simulink External Mode. An example design for Zynq can be found here:

Note that this example uses the Xilinx ZC702 board. ZedBoard also works for this example.
