read only rootfs on microsd

Hi,

I want to make the root file system on zedboard read only. Has anybody done this? Any thoughts?

I am making it from fstab but that doesn't make the rootfs readonly; I can even make directories to / folder.

Btw, of course I am using ext4 for rootfs and linaro distro.

    Hi metinburak_,

In the interests of helping other forum members, and to show a little respect for the time of those that might be working to answer your post, please post a follow up response with a link to the answer if you have received a response or a solution on another forum. You might be courteous enough to post a link on the other forum if you get a solution here as well.

Have you tried setting the write protect tab of the SD card that is plugged into slot J12?

I remember when we were bringing up MicroZed for the first time, the Linux kernel we were using at the time would not boot because it could not mount the SD card in read/write mode.  The cause of this was the first hardware configuration we had did not have the SD card WP signal connected to a MIO pin.

    Regards,

    -Kevin

    Hi Kevin

Sure, I will do this if I get a response from other forums.

Can we make this via the WP pin from PL side at runtime?

ZedBoard uses a full-size SD Card, not microSD. Full-size SD Cards have a WP connection between the card, the connector, and onto the ZedBoard, which is connected to net name SD-WP, which is connected to MIO46. As long as you have properly connected WP in the SDIO controller in the PS and set the WP switch on the SD Card, then the driver should prevent the card from being written.
