Hi all,

Roughly a month after releasing the preview revision, and ~200 downloads (measuring the bandwidth increase), itu2019s time to announce Xillinux 1.0:

http://xillybus.com/xillinux

Except for polishing a few small details, the notable changes are:

* Sound support
* The OLED display used as an activity meter
* Faster boot
* Kernel module compilation natively on the platform (not just user space programs)
* Source files available
* SD activity LED enabled
* Some LEDs and buttons available through Linuxu2019 GPIO interface

The documentation has also been updated. In particular, a section about Xillinux was added to the Getting Started Guide for Linux:

http://xillybus.com/downloads/doc/xillybus_getting_started_linux.pdf

Thanks to all of you out there, who tried out the preview version, in particular those who offered valuable comments!

Eli

    Hi,
    I suppose this will be a seriously-linux-newbie question, but:
    What it takes for a "v3.3.0-digilent-12.07-zed-beta" kernel (used by Xillinux) to become a "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS-based Linux distribution"?

    Thanks! :)

    What makes a distribution is the software installed, the way the filesystem is organized etc. The kernels are pretty much the same in most respects.

    So Xillinux should be treated as Ubuntu 12.04 for the sake of compatibility.

    Any chance of   working with xilinx and adding a package manager and work towards getting a package repo setup ?

    I'd be happy to donate some webspace

    So can avoid recreating the wheel on porting all the standard linux packages and tools across.

    Something like opkg like angstrom distro uses.

    Hello. Very good distribution and a description of him. I had tried it and it work.  Now I have a question - is it possible to install Adobe Flash Player? I wonder if there is a package for ARM, I have not been able to find it yet. And anyway, I wonder what would happen, and it will greatly slow down the system.

    Hi,

    A shallow search revealed this:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/adobeflash-a8

    Note that there's a Flash plugin for Firefox on ARM A8 on that page. I suppose there's a shorter path than requesting it from TI. Any way, I would expect it to work on Xillinux.

    I've played a video on Xillinux (on Youtube with HTML5). It wasn't the best quality, but it worked fairly OK. My guess is that the Flash player will perform better (because it's already been through a withdrawal and renewed release due to performance issues).
