No Hello World output to the console on the MiniZed

Former Member

 Hi,

I carefully completed the MiniZed Zynq intro and Hello World tutorials in 2017.1.  The program runs but I get no output on the console.  I've tried the SDK Terminal and Tera Term.  I can boot Linux with the and get output with the switch set appropriatly but when the boot switch is set to J I get no response from any terminal.

  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brad

    Hello Brad,

Is your MicroUSB plugged in between J2 and your PC?

Can you program via JTAG successfully?(Blue LED D3 enumerates when you program from SDK)

Does your COM port enumerate in TeraTerm? If not please install the FTDI driver.

    Hi Josh,

      Thanks for the quick reply.

    * The MicroUSB is plugged in between J2 and my PC

    * I can program via JTAG and the blue D3 light comes on

    * I can find the active port for the MiniZed (COM6) in Teraterm, is this enumeration?

Do you know what baud rate I should be using?  I assume 115200 but I see mention of 9600 in the Hello world application.  Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Hi Brad,

It appears your connection over JTAG is good. Did you right click on the hellow world application then select Run As --> Launch on Hardware(System Debugger).

COM port should be set up as Baud Rate115200, Data Bits 8, Stop Bits 1, Parity None, Flow Control None.

In the 02_MiniZed_Zynq_Hello_World  please refer to page 15 step 8. to determine what COM port is is associated with your MiniZed.

The COM 6 that is enumerated in your TeraTerm may be for your MiniZed, or it could be for some other devices assiciated with your PC.

    Hi Again Josh,

I've confirmed that COM6 is the right port and is setup as you've suggested.  I've followed the instructions on page 15 and beyond.  Could this be a hardware issue or are you still thinking it's configuration?  What additional diagnostics can I provide?

    Thanks,

    Brad

    Hello Brad,

Did you change STDIN and STDOUT to ps7_uart_1 in the BSP you generated? That would explain why everything appears to work properly but you cannot see anything over your UART connection. Please see page 8 figure 9 of the 02_MiniZed_Zynq_Hello_World document.

    Hi Josh,

That was it.  STDIN and STDOUT were set to ps7_uart_0.  When I changed it to ps7_uart_1 the issue was resolved.

Thanks so much for the help,

    Brad
