Pulsar Linux PTP Support

Hi

I have a microzed successfully running Windriver Pulsar. However it seems that the ethernet driver does not support the hardware PTP functions of the board. I ran ethtool on eth0 and br0 and it shows that only software support is enabled.

Does anyone know how I can use Pulsar Linux to run linuxptp with hardware support? Or is there an alternate OS I should be looking at for this?

Hi Z,
My understanding is the Linux PTP is implemented in user-space, and so it should be possible to download the open source project and build it for the Pulsar platform. I can't say I've tried to do this, but please check out this link for details:

The software requires a Linux kernel version of 3.0 or higher, which should be fine for the current Pulsar release.

Hi Ron

its not linuxptp that is the issue. I am sure it will compile. The issue is the network drivers supplied with Pulsar for the microzed. The microzed phy supports hardware timestamping but the drivers in the pulsar do not seem to. I used ethtool to test the outcome.

The hardware certainly supports the PTP protocol, but we have had very little demand for that and it's not something we've attempted to provide software support for, not even in bare metal. As I noted earlier, there is support for PTP in Linux, and that can be compiled into the Pulsar kernel. For specific a Linux driver for the PHY, I would try the hw manufacturer's (Marvell) website.
