Xillinx DHCP IP

I have a problem with the IP addreses issued to the board Xillinux from Xillybus seems to aquire a new one every time the board is powered off. Does xillinux send some kind of lease free command on shutdown?
Is there a difference in poweroff and shutdown -h now?

    Hi,

    The DHCP server is free to give the board any IP it wants in response to a DHCP request. Some DHCP servers may remember the old address that was given to a certain MAC address, and repeat it next time. But that's optional.

    If you have control of your DHCP server, you may allocate a certain IP address to the board's MAC address.

    An alternative solution is to set the network configuration to a static IP address, if that's fine on your network.

    One thing I should mention, is that since the Zedboard doesn't have a real time clock chip (which is a bit weird, as they're pretty cheap, and important on a Linux system), the time always starts at zero (January 1st, 1970) and is then set correctly as soon as a network connection is acquired, and the time is updated from a time server. This causes, IIRC, a repeated DHCP request.

    And still, my own experience is that the IP persists from one boot to another. But I have my own DHCP server allocating IPs (isc-dhcpd-4.1.1-P1).
