building from scratch

Hi:
I am planning to use the zedboard for our new project and I want to build the image from the scratch, so is there any guide about building the pre-loader,u-boot, kernel etc. I want to start from Ubuntu and build the image from scratch.

It is possible, and I've done it, unfortunately my notes weren't very good. The link Sam gave above mostly worked for me, here are the few notes I took:

- Get the buildroot/busybox .configs from the Xilinx site, but go through them in detail-- I found at least one hard-coded path to a Xilinx developer's workspace you'll have to replace with your own setup (I think it was to the directory where the arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi- tools are installed).

- If you're creating an FPGA image, synthesis will fail (I think this is Ubuntu specific) because the tool can't call gmake-- just symlink it to make.

- (Good general advice) Be sure to "make clean" before actually "make"ing any given project. At least one of them had an old configuration that messed up my build because I didn't make clean first.

Right now it is just on the microzed, but I plan on adding zed support next week.

No fsbl required. It uses u-boot's spl features to generate the boot.bin file. (Xilinx fsbl is not open source, and it is a pain in the ass to use)

100% open source and should build under any linux distro, though I've only tested building it on ubuntu.
