I'm not sure if anybody else is having this problem, but I cannot get the full Digilent kernel to work for me with Xillinux. Could anyone give an extremely dumbed-down step-by-step on how to do this? I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks.

Section 5.2 of The Getting started with Xillybus on a Linux host guide (available at Xillybus' site) briefly explains how to compile the kernel.
I suppose you didn't patch Digilent's kernel, so the driver for the VGA display was missing.
Just for my curiosity: Why do you compile the kernel?
I'm having issues getting v4l to work with the xillinux kernel, and I'm hoping the Digilent kernel won't have that problem. I tried downloading, making, and copying the image over to the SD card (writing over the current image) but it never boots and I have to reformat my SD card.

The Xillinux and Digilent kernel are pretty similar, since the Xillinux kernel actually the Digilent kernel + a few patches and a few changes in the configuration.
An "enriched" Xillinux kernel (with drivers enabled for virtually everything) is about to be released in a matter of a few days. This one has a good chance of solving the v4l issue. Stay tuned. ;)
As for the need to reformat the SD card: You are using a Sandisk, right...?
