software development + 2nd partition

The SD card is shipped with a linux image that executes from a ramdisk if I understand it correctly.

My questions are:
1. Can you use this image to develop actual software and release it? Or do you suggest to choose a full distro to develop software?

2. Is it possible to create a 2nd partition on the SD card and mount it as storage disk?

1. I would suggest setting up a cross-compile environment to do development, and keep the Zedboard separate for just code execution. This will reduce the number of things running on top of the Kernel and keep execution speed fast.

The image that ships with the Zedboard (can also be found here: http://zedboard.org/node/241) does not have a development environmental nor tools available. If you want to do development on the Zedboard you will need to add them to the RAM disk image, or to the SD-Card partition.

2.It is possible to use the first partition (/dev/mmcblk0p1) as a storage device, or keep that separate and create a second partition and mount that.
