I have seen people recommend doing development under Linux rather than Windows. Can anyone give me a list of reasons for or against using Linux for the development environment? I'd like to present a case to my bosses.

Development without proper testing is a recipe for disaster no matter which OS you're using to develop your software. So, what's your target and who's the end customer? What do they want?
If worried about developing software within a particular operating OS, then it's worth listing out the constraints of each. Then, it often comes down to cost. In some operating systems you are more limited by the choice of open source (free) software etc. But then you also have to consider licensing issues for your own software etc. So, what are you concerned about?
