Multiple UARTs?

jhane

Hello,

Is there more than one UART available on the ultra96?  I would like to have the console for the a53 and an r5.   I saw that the zcu102 board has this but I only see the jtag and uart1 when I connect the ultra96 board.

thanks,

jeff

    Hi Jeff,

There are 2 Uarts - UART0/UART1 available from the PS. Dependent on how your hardware platform is configured you may not have access to both. For instance if your using the provided BSP, in that hardware platform UART0 is connected to the bluetooth while UART1 goes out through J6.

    Hi Josh,

I understand that that can 1 or more from the PS(or even adding one in the PL); however, I'm trying to debug the system.   I want the have console access to linux and a console from RPU0 for printing debug messages.

I'm trying to understand how to debug the system.  I was able to boot from SD, which loads the PL and boots linux.   I then use the SDK to load and run the R5.   When I do this, my linux console stops working and my wifi connection drops so now have no way to run commands in Linux.  After I reload the R5 a second time I can messages on the serial port from the R5.

Is there a way to get a serial console from both the APU and RPU?  I could deal with only getting one from the RPU but that means I need the wifi connection to stay up so I can run commands on the APU.

    thanks,

    jeff

    Josh,

I see now how it is connected to the bluetooth and why you might want it connected a PS uart verses adding one in the PL.  Since I don't need bluetooth right now I've figured out how to remap the UART to some pins on the LS connector.  So with a couple device tree changes and setting the RPU to UART0 I was able to use a standalone USB-UART cable to get a second serial port.

    thanks, jeff
