Ultra96-v2 connecting board to wifi

Andrew J
Andrew J over 4 years ago

This is very new to me so please bear with.  I'm running through the getting started guide, v2.1 and I have the latest image loaded.  I can connect to the board's wifi with no problem, the issue is connecting the board to my home wifi network.  If I 'refresh connections' I can select it, enter the password and press connect.  At this point I just get directed to a 500 Internal Server Error page and can't connect.  Definitely have the right password and there's nothing in my router configuration that should prevent connection.  Any ideas?

EDIT: My SSID has a space in it, would that cause an issue (as an example, it certainly does for my Siglent oscilloscope)

EDIT: Trying anything from the Configure menu results in the Internal Server Error page (E.g. change the root password fails.)  This feels like the problem with the setup is related to something not specific to wifi.

EDIT: in the root home directory, files wifi.sh and wpa_supplicant.conf exist.  I thought these had been removed?  To confirm, this is the image I've burnt to the SD disk: http://avnet.me/ultra96-v2-oob

Hi Andrew, The Ultra96-V2 WiFi configuration webpage might be having an issue with the white space character in your SSID. I seem to recall another user also having this issue. Have you tried rebooting…

It would be a major pain to rename the SSID; is there any reason why I shouldn’t be able to change the root password from that config page? That might point to something to try first. I have rebooted the…

Hi Tom, well, you were right, it doesn't like spaces in the SSID. Having changed that this morning (not as much of a pain as I thought) it works and I can ping internet servers. In fairness, spaces in…

    Hi Andrew,

The Ultra96-V2 WiFi configuration webpage might be having an issue with the white space character in your SSID.  I seem to recall another user also having this issue.

Have you tried rebooting the board since configuring the WiFi?  I have found that is usually necessary to get the board to connect to the WLAN.

I have rebooted the board, and returned the image just to be sure that I’d got the right one.

In a post I found Bryan Fletcher said that the two files I mentioned had been removed but there on my board, albeit with dummy values for SSID and pass phrase.

    Hi Tom,

well, you were right, it doesn't like spaces in the SSID.  Having changed that this morning (not as much of a pain as I thought) it works and I can ping internet servers.  In fairness, spaces in SSIDs are allowed so I guess this is a bug somewhere.  At least I can connect my scope to the network now as well!

I still can't change the root password from the web app though - just responds with an internal server error.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
