Default Image - Networking (usb and wifi)

Hi Guys,

I have networking over usb and also the Ultra96 connecting to my wifi at boot, the steps I have taken seem to be a bit of a hack though so I am wondering what the correct way of doing this is!

To get it working I had to do the following:

1. Add /etc/modules file containing:

  g_ether

2. Edit /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf and make it read only:
  ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
  ctrl_interface_group=0
  update_config=1

  network={
    ssid="SSID"
    scan_ssid=1
    key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
    psk="PASSWORD"
  }

3. add /etc/rcS.d/S99usbetherstart.sh containing

  sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.3.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
  ifup wlan0

Anyone know the correct way of doing this?

Many thanks

Andy

    Your method looks correct to me.  It is common in Linux to need to edit those files to achieve the desired effect of booting what interfaces (in this case USB Ethernet and WiFi) you want configured in certain ways.  If your board now boots the way you need it to, connected by default to the SSID you specified, then I would consider your method a success!

    Cheers!

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for the info.

    The main issue I have is that I have to set  /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf to readonly otherwise something at startup re-writes it.

    You don;t by any chance now what is doing that?

    Cheeers

    Andy
