Firmware Development Documentation for the UltraZed EV Kit

wchase
wchase over 7 years ago

I have an UltraZed EV Starter Kit on order and plan to develop firmware with it.  Would it be possible to get preliminary firmware design information for this card?  Things such as a Vivado project, block diagrams, firmware descriptions, design guides, etc.  Anything that would allow me to get a head-start on firmware design.  Thanks!

    Hi wchase,

We are working on putting together some reference design examples for this kit.  In the meantime, check out our HDL repo and our PetaLinux repo (designs built in 2017.4 tools) for everything that we have done so far on UltraZed-EV:

    https://github.com/Avnet/hdl

    https://github.com/Avnet/petalinux

We have all of the source code for the OOB application up there and eventually this will be placed into a series of nice PDF documents with some easy to follow instructions for our tutorials series.

    Best Regards,

    -Kevin

    Thanks Kevin!

Is there an actual Vivado template project out there for the UltraZED EV yet?  I don't see one.  Although I do see bits and pieces of what should be in one.  Maybe just download the files I can find - and start from that?

Also - what is the basic procedure for copying files/data off of the repository?

    Thanks,

    Warren

    Hello Warren,

Typically for building Vivado projects from our GitHub you would do the following

    1.Download the HDL repo.

    2. In Vivado you would then source the project you wish to make from the hdl/scripts folder.

For the UltraZed EV OOB design, when attempting to build the Vivado project:

        the part = xczu7eg-fbvb900-1-i-es2

        the board_part = em.avnet.com:ultrazed_7ev_cc:part0:1.0

neither of these are recognized by Vivado 2017.2

are these definitions availble in the Xilinx TCL Store - haven't found them yet.

    Thanks,

    Warren

    Hi Warren,

Those are the board definition files. They can be found here https://github.com/Avnet/bdf

    Hi Warren,

That is a good point! The only hardware that we have to date to validate any UltraZed-EV designs on is the ES2 silicon but when you receive your board it will be production silicon.

Let me see if I can get an updated UltraZed-EV BDF out tonight for you.  The files won't be fully validated until we get in production silicon modules for us to test with, but it should get you a valid component to start your development with.

For this 7EV device, keep in mind that you will need to use Vivado Design Edition (or better) to build designs targeting the xczu7ev-fbvb900-1-i device on the UltraZed-EV.  So far, I am developing in 2017.4 tools and we should have some updated examples pushed up to the Github repo in the next few days.

    Best Regards,

    -Kevin
