Cannot program eMMC flash when SD Card disabled

Hi,

I am currently using the Ultrazed-eg SOM with the IOCC, but I am starting to make customisations in preparation for a custom PCB.

Using AVNET's BSP as a base, I flash and boot from SD0, the internal eMMC. I then load the kernel and rootfs from a SATA. This is working fine.

As soon as I disable SD1, as the custom PCB will not have an SD card, I can no longer flash the eMMC via the SDK. The process halts at 'programming memory'.

I can flash the same image to the dual qSPI and it works. Just no longer flash the eMMC. From u-boot / Linux, I can see the eMMC is enabled when booting via qSPI.

If I enable SD1 again, I can then program the flash on SD0.

  •   Ultrazed-eg IOCC - Prod silicon.
  •   Vivado 2017.4
  •   SDK 2017.4
  •   PetaLinux 2017.4
  •   Ubuntu 16.04

Thanks,

Richard.

Are you physically turning off SD1 (SDCARD) in your Vivado Hardware Project and then attempting to program SD0 (eMMC) through SDK?

These should be two mutually exclusive physical interfaces and one thing shouldn’t affect the other. There could be a problem with the SDK flash programmer utility (it is fairly new supporting eMMC only for MPSoC devices).

We don't think there is anything physically wrong with the Avnet provided material. This sounds like a tools issue. Have you checked with Xilinx to see if this is a known issue?

    Hi Bryan,

Yes, you are correct. Everything works correctly. I can program the eMMC using the SDK. I then modify the Vivado design to disable the SD card, export my hardware to the SDK and I can no longer program the eMMC.

I haven't contacted Xilinx yet. I'll give them a try.

    Thanks,

    Richard.
