Some general problems with the out-of-box design

Hello,

I'm new to Embedded System and have (almost) none experience with SoC before.

In my new task, I am asked to develop c applications on Ultrazed EG Board.

First I followed the instruction on the card shipped with the device and installed out of box design of Petalinux on a MicroSD card downloaded from this website, then connect the board to PC. After turning on the board, nothing shows up on serial monitors, but the board seems to be working (fan is on, PS LED is on but not flashing).

My question is then:

1. Is the software configured correctly? Or should I change any jumper settings?

2. To develop C program for this board, do I need both Xilinx SDK and Vivado or only SDK?

    Hi there,

    If you followed the card, it should have instructed you to change dip switches to match a specific order of ON-OFF.  This would set the card to boot from SDCARD, which would then load the PetaLinux image.

    Also on the card, you should see the BLUE DONE LED light up.  Do you see this?  If not, the MPSoC is not booting from SDCARD and this means either the dip switch configuration is wrong, or the boot.bin file is not correct in some way on the SDCARD.  Either it has the wrong name, wrong location, or has been corrupted.

    You will need both Vivado and SDK, as SDK relies on Vivado for certain work.  I am not sure you can even install ONLY SDK.
