Ultrazed-EV: How to test the SFP cages with copper network cable?

Hi Avnet,

At the moment i'm about to test the SFP cages with a Dell 470-13571 Networking SFP+ cable.

How can I test these ports? i've noticed they are connected to the PL side on the GTH bus ( H1 & H2)

Do you have some reference applications available? The manual is very limited on the subject.

Thanks Avnet,

Deville

    Hi there,

We use the Vivado built in IBERT test for this.  If you need to test something else, you would need to implement something based on the design you are attempting to replicate / use.

On our own board design we don't connect the cages to the PL side so a full implementation is a bit overkill.  We are waiting on our own custom assembled PCB so in the meantime I wanted to perform simple tests for future reference.

    Thanks again Dan

    Deville,

The design is built into Vivado.  We have a build script for a different board that would generate the design, but really it is not very hard to do.

If you take a look at our PicoZed page:

    http://picozed.org/support/design/13076/106

All the way at the bottom, you will see an IBERT design.  That should give you the steps to set it up.

Just make sure you substitute for the 7EV MPSoC as well as the other appropriate settings!

I feel confident that once you see the flow as well as get into the GITHUB files, you'll see what needs to be done.

You can also check out our Tech Tips videos on tuning.  There are a few features that MPSoC has that the PicoZed does not, but there is still a LOT of good content in there to help you work through the tuning process.
