Ultra Zed EV Power supply

Hello,

I am designing a custom Ultrazed EV carrier card, wherein I am retaining the power

section of the EV carrier card as it exists in the evaluation kit carrier card.

 

My questions is:

 

1. What is the minimum and maximum  VIN(external DC supply) that can be be fed to the Ultrazed EV carrier card.

   All the documentation of the CARRIER card mentions only 12V as supply.

 

   AS Per "UltraZedTm-EV Carrier Card Hardware User Guide", Version 1.0 documentation, the Infineon PMICs(U21,U22,U18,U19) have cutoff PMIC input voltage VIN

   of 9V  and output is to turned on only if input voltage VIN exceeds 11V. I am unable to figure out the logic behind this.

   Request to kindly explain the logic behind this and why VIN cannot be less than 9V(say 7V)

    Hi Abhishek,

     

    The main reason is the carrier supports an FMC interface, which requires 12V. The PMICs on the carrier are configured only to turn on above 11V, however if you designed your own carrier, the SOM itself can be powered from 7V. The PMIC configurations can be changed to support the lower VIN that you wish to use (while obviously no longer supporting the FMC interface). Do you have an Infineon dongle? If so I have a blog that shows how you can modify parameters inside the PMICs. Have you spoken to your local Avnet FAE? I may be able to get them to help you with this modification.

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your prompt reply for my urgent query.

     

    I am already in touch with Local Avnet FAE for getting the Infineon dongle.

     

    In my custom carrier card there is no FMC interface.

     

    Further to your reply, I have following query:

     

    As mentioned in the earlier post, I have retained the power section of Evaluation kit carrier card as it is in my custom card including all the voltage rails.

     

    My requirement is to operate  Ultrazed-EV SOM + my custom carrier card from a single DC Power Supply(Vin= 7V +- 0.5V)

     

     

    Apart from changing default configuration file of Infineon PMICs (as on Evaluation kit Carrier card)

    do I need to optimize values  of Inductors, capacitors etc. on carrier card PMICs Like IRPS5401MTRPBFA01 and IR38063MTRPBF0X1B.

    Or just changing the PMICs configuration file would be sufficient the meet input voltage requirements.

     

    Also, as per documentation and hardware user  guide for SOM, it can accept any voltage voltage range in between 5V-12V. So I am

    assuming that feeding  7V input dc supply should not be an issue. Kindly confirm

     

    Also, share the blog that explains how to modify the parameters inside PMICs . I have already requested AVNET FAE  to get me the  default configuration file for PMICs for  SOM as well as evaluation kit carrier card.

    Hi Abhishek,

     

    The videos in this blog show some of the navigation and control using the Infineon GUI - Benefits of Power System Telemetry Using PMBus

     

    For operation simply changing the on/off thresholds should be sufficient for the design. The output stage design won't have to change. I believe I'm also in contact with your FAE on an email thread so I will follow up with him to help provide the config files as well as some more guidance documentation.
