UltraZed I-Grade potential Issue

c_chil
c_chil over 3 years ago

It was brought to Avnet's attention that the UltraZed EG I-Grade, and potentially the EV I-Grade, SOM may experience a failure at temperatures above 75c if the user carrier card is supplying +12V to +VIN pin.

We are currently investigating the primary PMIC capacitors for overvoltage failures and working on a solution.  For now, we recommend reducing the +VIN voltage to 11V or lower if operating the Ultrazed SOM at or above 75c.  We are working to understand the scope of the issue and will notify users of our findings.

Hi c_chil -- you don't mention the C-grade UltraZeds. Are they affected?

Hi bhfletcher, thank you for asking.  The C-Grade is not affected by this issue only the I-Grade SOMs when operating at or above 75c. This chart demonstrates the derating that needs to be taken into consideration.  The capacitors are rated for 16V so at 85c the max VIN is 11.2V.

Thanks, c_chil. So, just to be clear, all of the following situations are expected to operate without issue, correct?

    • UltraZed-EG/EV C-grade under C-grade conditions
    • UltraZed-EG/EV I-grade with VIN=5V @ 85C
    • UltraZed-EG/EV I-grade with VIN=12 <75C

    This one is the issue:

    • UltraZed-EG/EV I-grade with VIN=12V AND Temp>75C

Please keep us posted on how your testing works out!
