Displayport does not work with Petalinux 2022.2 BSP

e14 Contributor

Hi,

I cannot get Display on Ultrazed-EV board to work. I generated images using the Petalinux 2022.2 BSP proviced by Avnet.

Here are the related boot messages;

zynqmp-display fd4a0000.display: failed to configure link values

zynqmp-display fd4a0000.display: failed to train the DP link

JP1 is shorted, JP16 and JP17 are open. I believe in this configuration one of four pre-programmed configuration is installed which doesn't matter because all configurations programmes REFERENCE CLK 3 with 27 MHz.

Please tell me what extra configuations I have to do in the device tree to get Displayport to work. Provided BSP has no Displayport configuration.

Please help me.

Best regards,

Cem

Feedback from the BSP developer: Yes, we test Display Port on the UltraZed-EV BSPs. The base design displays the desktop environment on the DisplayPort monitor at boot. The HDMI design is setup to…

Have you actually measured the REfCLK to see that the 27MHz is there?

No, I haven't. This is a fairly new development board. I suspect there is an error with clock synthesizer.

Is there a error with jumper configuation? I dont want to find a driver and program the clock synthesizer with I2C.

Pre-built wic image out of uz7ev_evcc_hdmi_v_2022_2.bsp does not work as well.

Has displayport ever been tested on Ultrazed-EV?

I tried another Displayport cable as well to no success.

    Any ideas?

Are you using a real Display Port monitor or a DP->HDMI Adapter?  Adapters do not work.

Also, you should check AMD Answer Records for supported monitors.

UltraZed has been around for quite sometime so unless there is something wrong with your platform it’s a user issue (design, cable, or monitor).

Pre-built rootfs.wic image out of uz7ev_evcc_hdmi_v_2022_2.bsp does not work as well.

I tried multiple cables and two different Samsung monitors.

There must be something wrong with 2022.2 BSP.

Will I be able to get any help form Avnet?

I reached out to the team that generates the BSP to tell you if there is any issue with the 2022.2 BSP. I also asked them for a recommendation of which BSP you should be using as there are many available BSP from 2024.2 to really old versions. BTW - Why are you limited to 2022.2? As far as support, you should attempt to work with your local FAE assuming you have access to them. They can help you with application type issues such as this.

I was finally able to drive Displayport with BSP version 2022.2 of the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC VCU TRD from Xilinx.

2022.2 version BSP from Avnet is no luck.

I lost too much time with this. No USB-A port, only single-lane Displayport, not enough number of reference designs to verify interfaces (Is there a reference design to verify SDI in and out? I have not been able to find one). Wasted a lot of money for this. As if it is not enough that I have to go on internet and beg for a Linux driver for every single f**ing peripheral. This is completely absolutely and entirely unacceptable.
