UltraZED-EV supports 4KP60 on HDMI (input and output)

Hello!
I'm using the UltraZED-EV (SOM + Carrier) for a project where I need to process 4KP60 video on the FPGA (PL-side).

To do this, we'll be working with the HDMI input (4KP60) and the HDMI output (4KP60), and I need both the HDMI input and HDMI output to go to the PL-side, so I can process the 4KP60 video there (in the PL-side).

To summarize, please answer the following two questions:
1. Does UltraZed-EV (SOM + Carrier) support 4KP60 on both the HDMI input and HDMI output? If so, what do I need to do to make it support 4KP60?
2. In UltraZed-EV (SOM + Carrier), do the HDMI input and HDMI output signals go through the PL-side of the FPGA (I don't want to use the PS-side)?

Thank you very much!
Daniel.

UltraZed-EV Carrier Card onboard HDMI components support HDMI 1.4 (4KP30) and yes you could be PL-side but you need IP to do it.

You could also use FMC w/ a HDMI 2.0 solution to get 4K60 in and out. I would verify pinout compatibility as well as available clocking solution needed to support that.

    Thanks for answering!

I saw in the UltraZed-EV Carrier Card documentation that the HDMI output says it supports HDMI 2.0, so I thought it could. I'll copy what the documentation says: "The HDMI output is provided on a TE Connectivity 1888811-1. The HDMI_OUT circuit uses an SN65DP159RGZ IC for dual-mode DisplayPort to transition-minimized differential signal (TMDS) re-timer functions, supporting digital video interface (DVI) 1.0 and high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) 1.4b and 2.0 output signals."

Continuing with the HDMI output, the UltraZed-EV Carrier documentation also says this (regarding the HDMI output): "U9, a TI SN65DP159RGZR TMDS to HDMI level shifter and re-timer IC is used for adaptive and fixed signal equalization and clock recovery. The device is configurable via the HDMI_CTL I2C bus and supports data rates up to 6 Gb/s per lane to support Ultra HD (4K x 2K / 60 Hz) 8-bits per color high-resolution video and HDTV with 16-bit color depth at 1080p (1920 x 1080 / 60 Hz). This IC can automatically configure itself as a re-driver at all data rates."

For all these reasons, I thought we could have 4K60 on the HDMI output. Would that be the case?

However, I don't see anything clear in the UltraZed-EV (Carrier or SOM) documentation regarding the HDMI input. Yes, it seems to reach PL-Side directly through the GTH transceivers, but I'm not sure if it would support 4KP60. Does anyone know?

    Thanks a lot!
    Daniel.

I guess I am mistaken. I believed the limiting factor was the TPD12S016RKTR device, but these devices are not used in the actual datapath.

So, it should support 4KP60 (HDMI2.0).

    Back to your questions:

    1. Does UltraZed-EV (SOM + Carrier) support 4KP60 on both the HDMI input and HDMI output? If so, what do I need to do to make it support 4KP60?

Yes - you should be able to create an HDMI TX Reference Design from AMD (with modifications for clock generator being used) that should allow you to drive the the HDMI-TX display at 4K60.

    2. In UltraZed-EV (SOM + Carrier), do the HDMI input and HDMI output signals go through the PL-side of the FPGA (I don't want to use the PS-side)?

The HDMI TX design I mention uses the processor for setup only, but the actual design is PL / GTs.

There is a Linux based design that has HDMI enabled on the Avnet Github - hdl/boards/uz7ev_evcc at 2024.2 · Avnet/hdl · GitHub

Here is some discussion on the AMD forums about this:
