Its my first project using  Zedboard, I would like to extend my zedboard with PMOD AD1 card  through PMOD JE (SPI) connection facing PS , I couldnt find  documentation or examples .  If anyone can give me hints or examples on how to do that I would appreciate it

thanks in advance

    Hello Maged,

I don't know of a single example that covers all of the steps you will need to take, but here are some of the steps.

Read the data sheet for the ADC ADI that is on the PMOD so that you under stand the SPI interface and protocol. There is also some sample code on the Digilent web site for the PMOD.

You will need to use either the built in Zynq PS SPI controller or instantiate an AXI_QUAD_SPI IP block in the PL fabric. I have found the axi spi IP to be easier to use, but either will work. Adam Taylor has an example of using the PS SPI controller to drive a display in these 4 blog posts: https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Xcell-Daily-Blog/Adam-Taylor-s-MicroZed-ish-Chronicles-Part-81-Simple/ba-p/600617

As it shows you will need to provide constraints to connect the SPI signals to the specific PMOD pins you plan to use. Using the axi spi peripheral would be similar. You can find example code for the axi spi controller in the SDK as well.

Another good example of code driving an SPI interface on a PMOD is the Maxim project examples for their Analog Essentials kit.

    http://content.maximintegrated.com/en/design/tools/applications/evkit-software/index.mvp/id/1064

While the hardware design is a more complex multiplexer, if you drill down you can see how they have made the signal/constraint connections as well. And, if you select the code for one of their SPI based PMODs, there are very good examples on how to interface to the PMOD peripherals.

    Regards,

    -Gary
