Interfacing Maxbotix ultrasonic rangefinder with the zedboard

Hi,

I need to interface the Maxbotix Ultrasonic Rangefinder to the Zedboard. I had posted a question before about problems with the constraint file and I'm still not able to fix it so I want to ask some basic questions.

What I'm trying to do is read the PWM pin of the Rangefinder(I'm not sure if I should connect to interface JA or JE yet) and display a message on the terminal for every positive edge of the PWM signal(That would be JA4 or JE4, depending on which pmod interface I use). Essentially, this application detects any object in range. What would be the best block diagram for this application?

Thanks.

Do you plan to 'poll' the PWM signal in software running on the Zynq ARM processor via a GPIO block? If so you could use either the PS (Processor System) GPIO on the JE PMOD connector using the MIO interface (or the JA PMOD connector using the EMIO interface) or us an AXI GPIO Block connected to the JA PMOD interface.

If the PWM signal is too high a frequency to detect the positive edge by software polling you can implement a hardware detection circuit in the PL (Programmable Logic) portion of the Zynq device and connect to the JA PMOD interface.

As suggested in your other forum post you might want to spend some time with one of the tutorials listed to better understand the options available using the Zynq device:
