Zedboard version with Zynq 7015

Hi,

Looking at Xilinx documents, I have discovered that a new Zynq 7015 is out (or is coming out).

Although placed in the low-end Zynq selection, this SoC has Gigabit Transceivers which would be an excellent addition to the Zedboard (for testing HD-SDI video transmission, SATA/USB3, why not even dream of 6G-SDI, ...).

I have not seen the price of this Zynq, but as its number is lower than the 7020, it may be reasonable to believe that it would even be a bit cheaper ?

Is there any plan on releasing a new development platform like the Zedboard using this Zynq 7015 ? (Oh please do say yes)

Regards,
Clement

I just did a demo of a concept to my boss, and we are moving to the next phase.  I never thought a board like Zedboard (one that packs Zynq 7020 at least) for the final system, but the sheer time I spent bringing up this demo on Zedboard makes me want to just keep going. Discovering that Zedboard can PERHAPS access > 32GB SD card made me rethink the original plan of migrating to Mini-ITX (for SATA and GPU).  But since SD bandwidth is an order of magnitude lower than even SATA2, it would be great if I can resort to a USB3 disk.  But from this post, I get the drift that Zynq 7020 fundamentally cannot support high-speed serial I/O (whether SATA or USB3) because it doesn't have GTX.

    Is my understanding correct?

You are correct, the Zynq 7020 on the ZedBoard does not have any high speed serial transceivers. In addition to the Mini-ITX board and the Zynq MMP boards, with Zynq 7045 or 70100 devices,  Avnet also has two PicoZed boards that support high speed transceivers. The PicoZed 7015 or PicoZed 7030 board, in conjunction with a PicoZed FMC Carrier Card, could support high speed serial interfaces such as PCIe and SATA.  There are PCIe Reference Designs for the Mini-ITX and the Zynq MMP and and the Mini-ITX has a SATA Reference design as well.
