Hello

 

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.  I had a question on the Zedboard's use of the TUSB1210.  I know the Errata mentions the issue with the timing.  It seems now that the issue has been resolved by TI as they state the timing is within the Zynq timing requirements so that isn't an issue now.  Also it has worked for the Zedboard.

But I also saw another potential issue according to the TI TUSB1210 datasheet it states the VBAT voltage should be applied before the VDDIO voltage.  The VBAT on the Zedboard is connected to 3.3V and the VDDIO is connected to the 1.8V.  Looking at the power supply sequencing on the Zedboard the 1.8V comes up first than the 3.3V which follows what the Zynq datasheet outlines.  Unfortunately according to the TI TUSB1210 datasheet there is a diode between VBAT, 3.3V and VDDIO, 1.8V and if 1.8V comes up first there should be a problem.  Now obviously this doesn't seem to be an issue with the Zedboard but why?

Also the concern with switching to the SMSC part is driver compatablilty .  Is there any driver changes between using the TI part and the SMSC part or is that all transparent on the Zynq end?  I don't know if the ULPI interface is a standard and all parts must meet it.

    Hello Gary,

    As for your first question in regards to the power sequencing of the Zedboard going against the recommendation of the TI TUSB1210, I will most likely have an answer for you early next week. I am currently working with a colleague on that one.

    Now for your concers about driver compatability.

    I don't believe that you will encounter a driver issues, if you do encounter an issue it would be in resepct to a manufacture specific register (unique registers to that device). However, I do not believe you will find that issues due to the SMDC part is also being used on the ZC702 board.

    Thank you for the quick reply.

    I look forward to hearing your answer on the TUSB1210 power sequencing issue.  Very strange that it's not an issue on the Zedboard but it clearly states an issue on the datasheer.

    Thank your for the feedback on the USB3320 part.  It's also used on the Microzed board too.  I think the big thing is the reset of the part by the Zynq  MIO7 pin.

    Hi Gary,

    Thanks for pinging me again, here are our thoughts. If they were all power pins, then if you can hit all pins at the same time with power it would be okay. Which we believe to be done by the Power Sequencing Reset Circuit in the Zedboard. However this is just an assumption. I am going to suggest to get a more sure answer by asking this same question over at Digilent as they were prevalent in the design process of the Zedboard.
