AES-Z7EV-7Z020-G Zedboard

Had a few queries regarding the AES-Z7EV-7Z020-G Zedboard

In order to get the board functioning , would it just be connecting the RF board and the Zedboard via the FMC (LPC) interface or we need to load any kind of software/firmware to get the board up and running?.

Does the Zedboard require a processor debug adaptor and what’s is its purpose ?

Thanks

    Hello,

The ZedBoard is based on the Xilinx Zynq 7Z020 device. The Zynq device contains both a PS (Processor System) section that includes two ARM cores and a rich set of peripherals, and a PL (Programable Logic) section that can be programmed separately. In 'normal' or non-JTAG mode the ARM core will boot up first and then, depending on the code in the FSBL (First Stage Boot Loader) and possibly subsequent Second Stage Boot Loaders and/or application code, the PL portion of the Zynq device may be loaded as well. The PL section can be loaded independently of the PS section via the JTAG interface. So, short of a debug environment using JTAG, the ZedBoard will need some code to operate.

The ZedBoard can boot from either the QSPI flash on the board or from an SD card plugged into the SD Card slot on the ZedBoard. The ZedBoard comes with a pre-programmed SD card that will boot Linux. There are also quite a few SD Card and QSPI images available to download. A good place to start is here: http://zedboard.org/support/design/1521/11

There is dedicated JTAG interface logic on the ZedBoard so all you need for this debug interface is a micro USB cable and the Xilinx Vivado and SDK software. The free webpack version of these tools support the ZedBoard.

You may want to start by looking at the Quick Start Guide, the Getting Started Guide, and the Users Guide for the ZedBoard that can be downloaded here: http://zedboard.org/support/design/1521/11

There is also a lot of tutorial information on both this site, the Xilinx web site, and others such as Adam Taylor's 'MicroZed Chronicles' blog that can be found here: http://zedboard.org/content/microzed-chronicles

You may want to start with the Avnet Zynq Software and Hardware Speedway workshops that have hands on labs for the ZedBoard:

    http://zedboard.org/support/trainings-and-videos

Your question implies that you want to use the ZedBoard with an FMC based RF board, probably one of the FMCOMMS boards. There are boot images and other information on these boards on the Analog Devices web site.

    Hi Gary ,

Also wanted to ask you of the ZynqRegistered-7000 All Programmable SoC / AD9361 Software-Defined Radio Evaluation Kit would support the AD-FMCOMMS3-EBZ. ?
