BBRAM

Dear all,

I want to perform a secure boot on the Zedboard.

On the ZYNQ manual (chapter 32), it says that secure boot can be implemented through an encryption key stored either on eFuse or BBRAM.

However, BBRAM requires a battery and can't seem to find any battery on the Zedboard.

Anybody knows if BBRAM is supported by Zedboard?

Also, how can I get the key file (.nky), StartCBC,
Key0 and HMAC values required by the bootgen utility when using encryption for secure boot?

Best regards
Dani

    Hi daromart,

The Zynq TRM Section 2.2 contains a description of the power pins.  According to this Vcc_batt pin is used as the PL decryption key backup.  Looking at the Zynq schematic, the VCCBATT_0 is on pin G9 which is connected to J16.  I think the idea here is to de-solder R187 and solder the wire terminals of a 1.5V battery to the J16 header pads if you wanted to try the battery backup feature.

It looks like Zynq CES (which is currently on ZedBoard) does not support secure boot, take a look at this AR for further details:

    http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/47565.htm

Unfortunately, I have not seen a good example of how secure boot key files are generated either.  We may have to wait until the GES silicon release.

    Regards,

    -Kevin

Kevin, thanks a lot for your comment.

I'm a bit shocked to see that secure boot mode is not supported. I was convinced that I would manage to use it after reading so many details about it in the Zynq TRM. In fact, that is the only reason we decided to buy the board(s) (we also bought the Xilinx ZYNQ-7000 EPP ZC792 evaluation kit, but it seems it is equipped with the same SoC).

    Best regards
    Daniel

    Daniel,

Please don't get confused here with nomenclature.  The parts that you have on those boards are CES silicon - that is, not production silicon.  Production silicon *will* have this ability.  I would highly recommend getting in touch with your local Avnet FAE to get more information about this roadmap for Zynq.

    Hi,

    Any updates about that topic?
When production silicon will be available?

    Thanks.
