RSVDGND  To ground or not

nick0559
nick0559 over 7 years ago

The posting on this site for Zynq pins

http://zedboard.org/content/zynq-pins-deep-dive

States that "RSVDGND must be pulled to GND"

And the schematic for the PicoZED 7015 and 7030 show RSVDGND grounded.

However Xilinx Answer Record 70537 states that "This pin is reserved for Xilinx testing only, and Xilinx recommends that the pin be left unconnected. "

https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/70537.html

Which is correct?  I suspect that it is AR#70537 but I would like confirmation.

Also is there a discussion of the fact that the picoZED 7015/7030 seems to not be in alignment with AR#70537 and what if any precautions shoudl be taken as a result?

Thank You

Nick

    Hi Nick,

As of now all of our Zynq 7000 platforms have RSVDGND tied to GND. At this time we do not plan to modify any PCB to accomidate for this new standard. As per the AR, we reccomend that STARTUPE2 either not be used or used only with extreme caution. We plan to update all erratas explaining this issue.

Another option is to use Vivado 2017.3 or later as it checks for this register being used for safety reasons.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
