PC communication - Zedboard

Hello,

Applications:
1. a program written in C++ on a windows PC send out commands to the Zedboard. Depending on the command a number, letter or number letter combination will be displayed on an PmodSSD, a seven-segment display.

Today, it is not clear how to start. Tips, starting points are welcome.

2. I use the switches on the Zedboard to display a letter or number combination on the display and use the same C++ program to read out which letter or number is written on the display.

Note: The idea is to do this using the USB.

When you say USB, do you mean USB 2.0 or USB-UART?

USB-UART would be a lot easier. If you choose to go the USB 2.0 route, you need to learn how to set up the ZedBoard as a USB Device, and you will likely need to use Linux.

The idea is USB-UART.

The idea is to send the needed commands/instructions to the Zedboard so the PL (FPGA) of PS+PL (ARM + FPGA) can perform the needed actions.

Hi J,
There are numerous examples for reading/writing from a serial port on Zynq (USB-UART). Once you can read incoming data from your PC over the serial connection, you can then perform whatever local actions you wish in your standalone program. The Xilinx drivers included with the SDK come complete with example code for invoking all the different APIs. Just take a look at the installation hierarchy for the source code. For example, in the 2015.2 installation, see:
