ZedBoard Hardware Design Connecting Ultrasonic HC-SR04 to Zedboard

Connecting Ultrasonic HC-SR04 to Zedboard

Hi ,

I want to connect Ultrasonic Ranging Module HC - SR04
with my zedboard.

I am using pmod JB1 and JB2 pin for trig and echo.

From HC-SR04 data sheet it is known that the two outputs from module is TTL 5V signal.

Please suggest me will it cause nay hardware failure to my zedboard.

    The Zedboard I/O is NOT 5 volt tolerant, so you will need to provide some sort of level translation or signal conditioning before connecting those signals to JB1 and JB2. Otherwise you may damage the Zedboard.

    Hi Gaurav,

    Gary is correct that the Zynq device on ZedBoard is not 5V tolerant.

    I have used an implementation of the circuit described on this page to connect an HC-SR04 up to MicroZed + I/O Carrier:

    It is basically a 5V to 3.3V level translator which uses an inexpensive MOSFET to adjust the signal voltage level from 5V to 3.3V needed on your TRIG input to Zynq.

    We used this exact circuit as part of an exercise for Avnet Tech Games 2014 Digital Design Dilemma:
