Pulse Width Modulation

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to do Pulse width modulation (PWM) using any pin on the zedboard? I need to drive a motor and the motor driver needs PWM.
Can i use the pmod connector I/O pins to do it? Are these pmod pins digital or analogue?

Also which pins on the board are digital and which are analogue? I have seen the schematics bu it looks too complicated.

Regards
Saher Maqsood

The PMOD connector I/O are digital I/O signals with a 3.3V level. You can use these to drive a PWM signal to a motor provided the voltage and current requirements are within the capabilities of the I/O. These signals are directly connected to the Zynq device so you need to make sure that you do not exceed the voltage levels defined in the Zynq data sheet or expose the signals to electrostatic discharge.

There are also digital I/O signals connected to the LPC FMC connector.

The only analog signals available are on the XADC header, J2. You can research the Zynq XADC interface for capabilites.

A good place to start understanding the capabilities of your Zedboard is the ZedBoard Hardware Users Guide found here:

There are some previous posts on the forum regarding motor control that might be helpful:
