ZedBoard HDMI Display Controller Tutorial

Hi,

I want to output Black & White bar patterns through the HDMI port on the ZedBoard. I found the tutorial for creating the controller on this website. First, I want to know whether this will work with Vivado 2016.3 WEBPack or not. Second , If it workes with above version of Vivado how can I send the custom patterns to the port for display.

Hello Inzamam Anwar,
As far as whether the 2016.3 webpack version will work for you depends. If your question is will the webpack version of Vivado work for you, then the answer is yes. However, you never stated which tutorial you found on our website that you wanted to use. I image you are talking about the "Zedboard HDMI Display Controller Tutorial for Vivado using Xilinx VIPP". That reference design is only updated to Vivado 2014.1, so you may encounter a few issues updating the design to Vivado 2016.3 due to the changes made to Vivado over the years. That tutorial also states that you are generating color bars. Why not try to modify it to display the black and white bar pattern you are trying to make?

Hello JFoster.
Thank you for your reply. Yes I am talking about the same tutorial. In tutorial, page 7, it is written that we will create the HDMI Display Controller design for the Avnet FMC_IMAGEON module. I want to use on-board HDMI port which is available on ZedBoard. If there is any tutorial for this kiindly guide me.

I tried to implement that tutorial on 2016.3 but it has error. When I open the "solution" provided in the tutorial, and open the IP generated by TCL file I can see different IPs but when I execute the TCL file in my own project it only show 3 IPs. When I run the Validate Design it give me errors.

Hi Inzamam Anwar,
Try implementing the tutorial in 2014.1. Vivado tends to change slightly from version to version.

Hi Josh!
I have implemented the tutorial and made some changes according to my need. I have one more question about the ZedBoard-HDMI Output IP core. I want to have a separate ouput of hsync signal for further use in the code. From that signal I just want to keep track of how many lines have been sent using a binary counter. Your suggestion is needed.
