Seeking Someone to Build a Robotics Project with the AVNET ZUboard; I will supply the parts.

Hi All.

imageIn the coming year I am planning to tweak the Essentials format. It will have less text but will include at least one original project.

It's a minor change, but a change nonetheless. The motivation for the change is simple: I think learning something is always best done side by side with something practical.

This will require more planning. But I still want to do it.

I am planning to do a ROS2 Essentials in Feb 2024 and want to find someone to build a robotics project with the ZUBoard. It should be relevant to ROS2.

The project will be featured within the Essentials learning module.

Materials to do the project

I will supply the ZUboard if the prospective project builder doesn't have one. I also will supply "reasonable" parts.

We have  roadtested the ZUboard. The reviews are worth reading, if you haven't already done so.

If you are interested in building this project, please message me at rscasny  or leave a comment and I'll contact you.

Sincerely,

Randall

For those interested, see this albertabeef resource collection: (+) Vitis-AI 3.0 designs for Ultra96-V2 and ZUBoard - element14 Community these two resources are a very good introduction: ZUBoard…

I had previously tried loading ROS2 to a Raspberry Pi, but quickly realized ROS2 interfacing took some detailed knowledge, not nearly as novice friendly as Arduino IDE. Maybe if ROS2 Essentials is good…

With a name like robogary, I thought you'd be an expert when it came to ROS2!

This is a nice step up for the Essentials program.

This definitely has the makings of an interesting Essentials module.

I've worked with some full-size industrial robots - coincidentally the ones featured in the video on the ROS2 homepage. However, I've only controlled them via their own scripted control system. I've also explored the Zynq a fair bit here on E14 but not touched on ROS2. Whilst this sounds fascinating, I'm not sure I've got the ROS2 experience (or a project idea) to do a good job of this. I'll see if something comes to me, but I'll probably might sit it out and wait for the Essentials module.

I've tried to learn ROS2 a few times, it'd be nice to have some good tutorials with code examples around somewhere.

Thanks for writing. I am asking for something specific, so I figured it would take some time to find the right person. This will definitely require some extra planning on my part.

That is a good idea and we should have code examples.

ROS2 is somewhere on my bucket list as well but ROS2 is complex and it pretty much requires Ubuntu Linux Bionic Beaver (18.04) or Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (16.04).

ZUboard comes with PetaLinux, although there seems to be some support for Ubuntu on Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC.

It could be a pretty massive effort to get ZUboard  just to run ROS2 on either Ubuntu or PetaLinux, even without trying to create a robotics project.

It looks like the Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit has an Ubuntu 22.04 image. I'm sure if you're trying to get ROS2 running on the ZUBoard, that there is a lot of useful info around the Kria (also Zynq based) that could help.

Maybe if ROS2 Essentials is good enough for code dummies like me, I could learn enough to make it work.

Donkey car with ML and lidar is on the bucket list.

I would genuinely love to try something like this. I believe I have a good cache of tools and parts required and would have no problem sourcing any additional components at my own expense, as required.
