Sensing the World Instructions for Daily Server Sync

A Note to Challengers: when choosing the name of your device, please do not choose a name that would compromise your privacy in any way, for example by including your name, location, or any other personal information. Please have fun with naming your device, but also do not choose any words or phrases that could be considered offensive.

Please also be aware of your usage when your kit is set up on a pay-as-you-go plan for Azure service, but note that syncing to the contest server for Sensing the World does not use Microsoft services.

Sorted out the problem with "URL response Fail!" error message box. Turns out my system for some reason doesn't resolve URL avnetagent.iotconnect.io to IP address. Temporary workaround is adding this line…

Hi, I have some problems with syncing app v1.2: there's too short delay between board restart and detecting WiFi IP address, sometimes WiFi address is not detected. Can be worked around by adding PAUSE…

For future readers, I don't doubt your knowledge, but I save you the time of the search for the location of the hosts file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

When you say once a day, how is a day determined?  Local time, UTC, or just once in a 24 hour period?

kelvic3d the name@kelvic3d.onmicrosoft.com looks like an email, but is not one. I would suggest you use something else instead. This name and password is only to get to AAD. Once there you need to create a tenant as the setup document says. Good thing is once created, the system remembers both and you should not worry. Unless you move to a new computer.

A more sure way to get this to work is to give the Azure Sphere MT3620 device more time to associate with your WiFi. In the "sk_check.bat" script, insert this after the ":Check_IP_ADDRESS" label and before the "for" loop :

echo     .... Giving Wi-Fi enough time to associate ....

    timeout 15

That should give the MT3620 plenty enough time to associate with your WiFi. I think this pretty much solves the problem. I hope it works for you, too.

Hi Victor! We are encouraging people to maintain their device name, but ultimately when we record the number of members who completed Phase 1 we are going to use the unique device ID rather than any name, to be sure we properly match up the device to the number of times it synced. So if a name change is needed that won't affect your entries to the challenge.

Thanks Jack! Your solution helped with the Wifi being connected. As far as the email goes, I just noticed with today's daily sign-on that the contest form has a place for my email. Going blind I guess...

Is it possible to change the name of the device without disrupting security, logs, or logins?

    If not, no worries,
