TrackHack London is almost here! TrackHack, the Proximity ID hackathon, focuses on the creative mash-ups of proximity-based technologies such as NFC and RFID — creating innovative mobile solutions in areas like security, marketing, social, gaming, payments and track and trace. The inaugural hackathon will be held at London Campus, a Google Space, Nov 20-22. Technical experts with the latest and greatest tools and technologies will be onsite during the event. In anticipation of the event, we put together some recent innovations that are along the lines of what we might see at TrackHack.
NFC NTAG I2C Board Demo with Windows Phone
Discovered on our community page, this demo uses the NTAG I²C Demo Kit and an LPC812 microcontroller. Combined with a special code written for the microcontroller, the video demonstrates how RF power from the phone is used to light an LED. The demo takes it a step further by typing in the color selection, instead of pushing a pre-programmed button. For this simple demonstration the NFC Commander available on the Windows Store was used.
Racecar with PN7120 on Raspberry Pi
With just a tap, it’s possible to connect and control a racecar with any NFC enabled phone or tablet. Using the PN7120 demo board, a plug’n play NFC board stacked on a Raspberry Pi, the racecar allows for control by various devices and drivers. A tap of the device to the NFC board on the car seamlessly pushes the device to a cloud server, which is formatted in a way that all devices can handle. The pushed web address contains information about the car, allowing the cloud server to determine which car to control.
NFC-enabled Bitcoin terminal
PEY takes advantage of the speed and security of NFC to bring bitcoin payments to the masses in an easy and non-technical way. The bitcoin payment terminal combined with the same PN7120 board on a Raspberry Pi makes the transaction quick and easy. Put a 3D printed case around and ready is the “tap and go” bitcoin payment terminal to break down the barriers for bitcoin adoption.
All NFC boards mentioned will be available for everyone at the hackathon. With $10,000 in cash up for grabs, it's time to register for this event now. Preliminary meetings with developers and our technical experts will begin on November 16, so reserve your spot now for your team! Registration is free. http://proximityhack.com/
All NFC projects that will be developed during the hackathon are tagged with #NFC_hackathon and can soon be found with full code in our community!
