RIoTboard EMC Certification?

Former Member

It's been done to death before, so I'm not going to go over the same arguments again.  This is more about inconsistencies in the documents than anything else.

The Quickstart Guide here http://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-65503/l/riotboard-qucik-user-guide-for-riotboard is all of two pages with the second page being devoted to compliance information. This suggests that someone was listening to the previous discussions after all image

However what caught my eye was that it's explicitly stated as being a Class A device for Europe, but for FCC it simply stated it complies with part 15b. Part 15b covers 'unintentional radiators' and classes those devices as Class A or Class B. What's missing is whether it's a Part 15b-Class A or a Part 15b-Class B device.

I find it odd that the information is provided with respect to the EU regulations,  but not the FCC ones.

I'm in the EU, so no problem for me, it's a Class A device here...  but....

The front page of http://www.element14.com/community/community/knode/single-board_computers/riotboard has "EMC Compliance - Class B certified"

image

So is that Class B in the US or in the EU ?

We know that the regulations are generally similar between FCC & EU, so doesn't it seem odd that it would be EU-Class-A but FCC-Class-B ?  Not impossible I suppose, but it's the sort of thing that raises questions.

So can I ask just one thing of e14...  Make it clear exactly what you're referreing to when you say Class B, and make that message consistent in all of the different places it's mentioned.

(for bonus points, do what the beagleboard & cubieboard folks have done and make the test reports available as that will easily remove all doubt)

    Appreciate the feedback! Noted.

For clarity - The RIoTboard is Class B compliant in the US and EU.

Feel free to use it at home!
