RIoTboard community ?

has been plastered all over the web in recent days

 

David Shen, Chief Technology Officer at Premier Farnell said: “The RIoTboard has been designed for and supported by a community of Design Engineers and Application Developers.  The hardware design has an optimised form factor, utilises one of the latest high performance multimedia processors and has been optimised for low power consumption.  Addressing these key design challenges upfront will reduce development time and time to market.

Does anyone have any pointers to the community it was designed for and will be supporting it ?

    Aside from the marketing guff, my impression is that it's aimed at Android developers primarily, as an alternative to using an emulator, so there's the whole community of Android behind it.

     

    Along with the community here at element14.

     

    I think that the statement's suitably ambiguous intentionally to encapsulate any and all communities that become interested in the RIoTBoard and just means that we (public, Farnell, Freescale, etc.) all support it on some way.

     

    Does that make sense ?

    kind of...  I was mostly curious as riotboard.org re-directs here, so you have to assume that this is the community it was 'designed for'.

    However, I managed to find the board on farnell's main site totally by accident.. the community here didn't know anything about it prior to release.  I tend to think that when a board is produced for a particular community it might be a good idea to get that community involved, ask them what they'd like to see in the board etc.  As that clearly didn't occur here, I was interested to find out if there was some non-obvious community elsewhere that I'd missed - especially as that community could have been a valuable source of information.

    This's because the RIoTboard hasn't officially been launched per say, there will be an advertising push for this next week. It's been a little fractured as you've witnessed.
