No sound in RioTboard (Android)

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hello,

I recently started with RIOTBOARD. When I connect, image and network speed was great, however I have no audio when playing videos on youtube or anywhere element14 not work either, even connect music with a USB that is "played" but no sound any.

Does anyone have some advice?

Does anyone else have this problem?

I conected the RIoTboard via HDMI to my TV. There is sound available! You must change a conf-file for other output I think. There are no problems with Ubuntu.

It seems the Android image is the problem. I can´t get it to work with my TV and no Sound either.

No Problems with the Linux Ubuntu Image. Also no problems so far with the debian image I flashed.

Have you tryed to use another hdmi cable! Can you hear a "click" if you use a mouse button to choose something on the screen?

    Can´t say that surely.

On my TV I don´t get a picture. So can´t test that.

My Monitor, which luckily has an HDMI Port, has no speaker.

And with the Audio Jack I don´t get any sound at all.

Today, switch to Ubuntu by following these instructions:

    http://www.element14.com/community/community/knode/single-board_computers/riotboard/blog/2014/02/25/impressions-with-the-riotboard-and-changings-its-operating-system-in-windows

And the sound worked!!.. but never works with Android.

Someone solved the sound problem, with Android?

I did some research and it seems that the Android Image ist missing some Settings to get Sound output over HDMI.

If you can connect on the board to the console you can type this:

    setprop ro.HDMI_AUDIO_OUTPUT 1

    setprop sys.hdmi 1

The sound should then work. (Can´t test it right now)

Problem is those settings are temporary. After a reboot it´s not working anymore.

You need to set the system partition as read-write and change the settings in build.prop to make it permanent.

But for that it seems root is needed?

Currently the RIoTboard in Android supports :

1 .Audio through HDMI Port, when the display is set to HDMI

2 .Audio on the output jack, when the display is set to LVDS mode

We are looking into this and will update soon.

This would explain why I can´t get any sound.

My TV won´t work at all with HDMI and my working display has no sound integrated.

And I don´t have an LVDS Display to test the audio jack.

It would be better if you could activate the audio jack when HDMI is used for video output.
